Fundão

Fundão is a municipality in the district of Castelo Branco (sub-region: Beiras e Serra da Estrela), covering 700 km² in 23 parishes. 58 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 303 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Fundão, Aldeia Nova do Cabo and Soalheira. 22 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them, among them Descoberto, Açor and Urgeiro.
