Proença-a-Nova

Proença-a-Nova is a municipality in the district of Castelo Branco (sub-region: Beira Baixa), covering 395 km² in 4 parishes. Most of it, 81 %, is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 157 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Proença-a-Nova, Montes da Senhora and Sobreira Formosa. 17 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them, among them Cerejeira, Maljoga de Proença and Vale da Ursa.
