Melgaço

Melgaço is a municipality in the district of Viana do Castelo (sub-region: Alto Minho), covering 238 km² in 13 parishes. Most of it, 85 %, is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.
The map finds 221 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Melgaço, Parada do Monte and Crasto. 85 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them, among them Castro Laboreiro, Várzea Travessa and Corsães.
