Valença

Valença is a municipality in the district of Viana do Castelo (sub-region: Alto Minho), covering 117 km² in 11 parishes. 66 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 152 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Valença, São Pedro da Torre and Ganfei. 56 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them — among them Paços, Soutilho and Gandra.
