Guarda

Guarda is a municipality in the district of Guarda (sub-region: Beiras e Serra da Estrela), covering 712 km² in 43 parishes. 73 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 309 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Guarda, Sequeira and Castanheira. 76 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them — among them Pega, Quinta do Torrão and Aldeia do Bispo.
