Mondim de Basto is a municipality in the district of Vila Real (sub-region: Ave), covering 172 km² in 6 parishes. Most of it, 85 %, is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.
The map finds 108 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Mondim de Basto, Vilarinho and Ermelo. 41 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them, among them Ermelo, Paradança and Pedreira.
