Valpaços

Valpaços is a municipality in the district of Vila Real (sub-region: Alto Tâmega e Barroso), covering 549 km² in 25 parishes. 51 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 230 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Valpaços, Carrazedo de Montenegro and Vilarandelo. 20 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them — among them Curros, Santiago da Ribeira de Alhariz and Ribas.
