Arouca

Arouca is a municipality in the district of Aveiro (sub-region: Área Metropolitana do Porto), covering 329 km² in 16 parishes. Most of it — 86 % — is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 280 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Arouca, Chave and Santa Eulália. 141 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them — among them Várzea, Cabeçais and Escariz.
