Murtosa is a municipality in the district of Aveiro (sub-region: Região de Aveiro), covering 73 km² in 4 parishes. Only 29 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.
The map finds 39 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Murtosa, Torreira and Touregas. 8 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them — among them Quintas do Sul, Mata and Mata.
