Carregal do Sal

Carregal do Sal is a municipality in the district of Viseu (sub-region: Viseu Dão Lafões), covering 117 km² in 5 parishes. 70 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 94 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Carregal do Sal, Cabanas de Viriato and Parada. 17 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them, among them Travanca de São Tomé, Bairro do Deldoreto and Tapada.
