Tarouca

Tarouca is a municipality in the district of Viseu (sub-region: Douro), covering 100 km² in 9 parishes. 63 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 65 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Tarouca, Várzea da Serra and Mondim da Beira. 8 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them, among them Vilarinho and Teixelo.
