Penalva do Castelo

Penalva do Castelo is a municipality in the district of Viseu (sub-region: Viseu Dão Lafões), covering 134 km² in 11 parishes. 67 % of it is forest land (woodland, scrub or natural pasture, according to the COS 2025 land-cover map): there, the strip around each house is 50 m wide.

The map finds 118 villages (groups of at least 10 buildings); the largest are Penalva do Castelo, Sezures and Casal Diz. 17 of them have forest land on more than half of the 100 m strip around them — among them Castelo de Penalva, Moinhos Pepim and Amiais.
